Hello Debbie
I am new to this site. My grandad has been diagnosed in Feb this year and we were advised to contact a solicitor. But we seem to think that his exposure was around 1942/3 and have been told that he is unlikely to recieve anything as it falls out of the dates. Any ideas thought you may have better knowledge. Very intrested about meet up Grandad would like that I think, where abouts are you we are not far from Leeds.
Best Wishes Vicky Keep smiling best medicine going.

Hi Flossy, Thanks for viewing I don't think that you can claim if exposure was before 1966. Contact a solicitor and they will give you some info. Bond pearce (0800 915 4650) are very good as are Thompsons (0800 783 0266). There may be some changes in goverment also that will allow any sufferer of Mesothelioma a payment. The press release is on the front of the site in the news alert. www.dwp.gov.uk/mediacentre/pressreleases/2007/mar/hsc023-130307.asp (copy and paste into address bar.) I live in Plymouth, Devon, where are you based? Just a quck question, when did he finish working in that industry? Keep in touch and I hope you like the website. Anything I can add that would be helpful to you, let me know. Debbie

Hi
Sorry I haven't replied. I have been very busy. A possible break through solicitor has found the insurers and writing to them. Maybe he will recieve something so he knows my nana is going to be cared for. Keep up the good work. Oh he was a plumber in Huddersfield which is West Yorkshire

Flossy, my husband received a government payment which the RD&E in Exeter actively helped us claim. He was likely to have contracted the disease prior to 1966.
We were told that the payment came from a pot of money set aside by the government.
It was under the Pneumoconiosis etc (Workers' Compensation) Act 1979.
The payments are age related and (in my husbands case) made on the basis of the start of Industrial Injuries Benefit. Payments are available for ALL regardless of age but are scaled.
I hope this helps. I can give more information if you need it.
Until then, keep smiling - it is the best medicine by far.
