Good to see Alimta is available to anyone who wants it. Hopefully it will make it a little less stressful knowing there is no fight to get the drug that the patient wants. Good luck and good health to anyone who wants it. info.cancerresearchuk.org/news/newsarchive/2007/july/18205821the link above will direct you to the cancer research site that has more info about Alimta.

Unfortunately, Alimta was not available to my husband, and that was Christmas 2007, we ended up funding it ourselves. Another case of Postcode Lottery I'm afraid. I was told to apply to the local PCT in writing, and then was told why should my husband be a special case, they had already turned away others! I couldn't believe it. By the time a decision would have been made it would have been too late...We had our arms up our backs and so decided to pay for it. Without his work's private insurance we wouldn't have got it. It bought us a couple of more months together. To me that was priceless. Mesothelioma patients are treated appallingly in my experience, but I could be biased.
Best Wishes to you Hel, I hope that you are staying strong,

Hello Moohmar You are yet another family who will suffer this awful disease and the fight for what should already be available. It is terrible the way the people are treated. Like many others, I presume your husband worked hard at his job not thinking he would be shortening his life. It is about time this whole issue was shook up. Thank you for taking the time to write on the message board. Debbie x

Hello Moohmar My husband was diagnosed with mesothelioma in November 2007. He did have four treatments with Alimta (pemexitred) - it made no difference - he died on 30th June 2008. Margaret.

Hello Margaret, Sorry to hear of your loss. It does sadden me to hear that so many people are losing their lives to Mesothelioma and they don't get all the information available. I only wish I knew about this a year ago. I hope that between us we can change the way Mesothelioma is treated.
